What is the SASS?

The Self-Aware Success Strategies are seven capacities you were pre-programmed to develop between your birth and the end of your seventh year of life. Each of those years, you had a window of opportunity to practice and strengthen a strategy for greater self-awareness and connection to others.

Self-Awareness for Success

Whether you seek personal or professional success, the SASS is healing magic distilled by a trauma-informed developmental psychologist, Dr. Carol Scott. Carol has mixed hundreds of years of child development theory with 21st Century brain imaging research, decades of her own experience with hundreds of developing humans of all ages, and her own lived experience of recovery from childhood trauma and Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

We were all pre-programmed for self-awareness and success. Sadly, pre-programming doesn’t always result in the desired outcome. So, DID you get your SASS when you were young? Let us see…

The Infant Success Strategy

Can you TRUST that others will see your needs and meet them? Do you depend on others to be there for you when you need them? You cannot be successful in any relationship without the Infant Success Strategy of Trust.

Do you live with the INDEPENDENCE of knowing who you are: what you want, think, and feel? Are you confident in expressing your full and authentic self for others to enjoy…or not enjoy, and you’re okay, either way? Success cannot be found until you embrace the Toddler Success Strategy of Independence.

How much FAITH do you hold for the mysteries of life? Is your imagination free to believe in things not seen, the unproven and unprovable? Without the three-year-old’s First Adolescence Success Strategy of Faith, success with your Big Dreams and life mission are impossible.

The Pre-K Success Strategy

How are your NEGOTIATION skills for getting what you want in life? Can you ask, make your case, and also hear what others want, for a win-win solution? Unless you have the Pre-K Success Strategy of Negotiation, you may only rarely succeed in getting what you truly want.

Can you create a VISION, a goal, and also an effective plan to get there? Do you know where you are going when you start out? Is the hoped-for endpoint achieved, at least most of the time? If you have not honed the Kindergarten Success Strategy of Vision, you may be one of those who wanders and IS lost.

Do you have the strength to COMPROMISE with others, giving up some of what you want for the greater good of a relationship or community? Do your relationships reflect understanding of humans’ complex needs and desires? Successfully playing in all the adult sandboxes is simply not possible without the First Grade Success Strategy of Compromise.

Is the peace of ACCEPTANCE woven throughout your life? Can you take the bad with the good, the losses with the gifts, acknowledge the injustice and the favor? Without the Second Grade Success Strategy of Acceptance, the tough stuff in life can knock you down and leave you down, completely out of the running for success as you see it.

These seven Self-Aware Success Strategies will change your life: at work, at home, out in the wider world. Wherever you go, and whomever you go there with, your relationships and experiences will be richer, more rewarding, and bring you more joy, if you take your SASS along!

Trust more, be more authentic and creative, get what you want out of life, and be the one everyone else wants to be!
